【摘要】:Thistestmethodisusefulforthedeterminationofpackageandapplicationviscositiesofpaintsandothercoatings.ItislimitedtoNewtonianornear-Newtonianliquids.ThistestmethodmaybeusedsimilarlytoISO2431inconjunctionwithflashpointtodeterminethehazardgroupingofviscousliquidsininternationalregulations.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftheflowtime(viscosity)ofNewtonianandnear-Newtonianpaints,andrelatedcoatingsandproductsusingISOcapillaryflowcups.Note18212;Iftheliquidisnon-Newtonian,thatisshear-thinningorthixotropic,TestMethodsD2196shouldbeused.1.2Thecup-orificecombination(ISOcupwithorificediameterof3mm,4mm,5mm,or6mm)isselectedtoprovideaneffluxtimewiththerangeof20to100sandviscositiesupto700cSt(700mm2/s).Themostcommonlyusedcupistheonewiththe4-mmorifice.1.3Thistestmethodislimitedtotestingmaterialsforwhichthebreakpointoftheflowfromtheorificeoftheflowcupcanbedeterminedwithcertainty.Thispointisdifficulttodetermineandreproduceformaterialswithflowtimesinexcessof100sduetoslowing-downeffects.1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Note28212;TheInternationalCivilAviationOrganization(ICAO)andtheInternationalMaritimeOrganization(IMO)includeintheirregulationsasimilartest(ISO2431)todeterminetheviscosityofhazardousviscousliquids.Theviscosityisthenusedtoplacetheseliquidsinahazardpackaginggroupdependingontheirviscosity/flashpointrelationship.TheU.S.DepartmentofTransportationpermitstheuseoftheseregulationsfortranshipmentofhazardousmaterialwithintheU.S.whenboundforforeigndestinations.
